An Art Nouveau Martelé Silver Centerpiece Bowl And Plateau

Made By John M. Sorum For Gorham Mfg. Co., Providence, Rhode Island, August 8, 1917


of naturalistic form, decorated with repousse flowering sprigs, both the bowl and stand bearing stylized monogram, "S," marked to underside, including silver standard mark, "9584," and numerical code, "LSZ."

Height 8 1/4 x diameter 15 1/2 inches (bowl, overall), Total weight: 127.335 oz. t.

Condition
Surface wear visible throughout commensurate with age and use. Tarnish in areas, particularly to recesses, with a heavier tarnish to the interior of the bowl. No signs of any restoration visible. Overall the piece has a bit of a shine to it, but more likely due to polishing and cleaning over time than due to any buffing; missing the original insert

Sorum on August 8, 1917-- it took him 69 hours to produce the bowl and 34 hours to produce the plateau. The finished pieces are illustrated together on pg. 109, fig. LSZ Centerpiece and Plateau.
